Deskripsi
Description
Alun-Alun Lor meliputi area seluas 300 x 300 meter.

The Sultanate
Alun-Alun Lor covers an area of 300 x 300 m. A number of smaller structures are arranged around the Northern Square including the tiger cages (although they are no longer in use). The Alun-Alun Lor is an important meeting place between the Sultan and the people. Important public festivities and rituals are conducted in the square, such as the Islamic rituals associated with birth of the Prophet Mohammad, Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. These practices have been held since the founding of the Kraton and continue to this day. Overall, the meaning of the Northern Square illustrates the conception of Manunggaling Kawula Gusti, the unification of the King and the people and the meeting of humans with God.
In the middle of the square stand two banyan trees, named Kiai Dewadaru and Kiai Janadaru. According to palace legends, Kiai Janadaru’s seed comes from the Pajajaran Palace (Kingdom in West Java 1030-1579 CE), while Kiai Dewadaru is from the Majapahit Palace (1293 - 1500 CE). These two trees are placed on either side of the Cosmological Axis, and when the Sultan meditates from his throne in the Bangsal Manguntur Tangkil, the trees help direct his view straight down the axis to the Tugu Monument in the north.
