Gamelan
Gamelan mengacu pada orkestra tradisional Indonesia dan seperangkat alat musik yang digunakan. Instrumen yang dimainkan dalam satu set Gamelan Jawa (Gangsa) termasuk kendang (drum), bonang, panerus, gender, gambang (xylophone), siter, clempung, slenthem, demung, saron gongs, kenong, kethuk, japan, kempyang, kempul, dan peKing.
Tercatat pada tahun 2021 dalam Daftar Representatif Warisan Budaya Takbenda Kemanusiaan UNESCO, Gamelan memiliki tempat khusus di antara masyarakat di Yogyakarta dan diturunkan dari generasi ke generasi melalui pendidikan formal dan informal. Yogyakarta juga mengadakan festival Gamelan internasional setiap tahunnya.
Gamelan merupakan sarana ekspresi budaya dan membangun hubungan antara manusia dengan alam semesta. Beberapa Gamelan yang dianggap keramat di Yogyakarta, hanya dimainkan pada acara-acara khusus. Kesultanan Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat memiliki sekitar 21 pusaka Gangsa yang dikelompokkan menjadi dua, yaitu Gangsa Pakurmatan (hanya dimainkan pada saat Hajad Dalem atau upacara kerajaan) dan Gangsa Ageng (dimainkan dalam pertunjukan seni budaya Kraton).
Gamelan refers to the traditional Indonesian orchestra and to the set of musical instruments used. Instruments played in a set of Javanese Gamelan (Gangsa) include kendang (drums), bonang, panerus, gender, gambang (xylophone), siter, clempung, slenthem, demung, saron gongs, kenong, kethuk, japan, kempyang, kempul, and peking.
Inscribed in 2021 on the UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity, Gamelan has its special place among people in Yogyakarta and is passed down from generation to generation through formal and informal education. Yogyakarta also holds an international Gamelan festival annually.
Gamelan is a means of cultural expression and building a connection between humans and the universe. Some Gamelans are considered sacred in Yogyakarta, are only played on special occasions. The Sultanate of Ngayogyakarta Hadiningrat owns about 21 Gangsa heirlooms which are grouped into two, namely Gangsa Pakurmatan (played only during the Hajad Dalem or royal ceremonies) and Gangsa Ageng (played in the Kraton’s cultural arts performances).
